1. Sec-octanol reacts with phthalic anhydride to produce dioctyl phthalate, a commonly used plasticizer for PVC, also used in synthetic fiber oils and defoamers.
2. Used in the synthesis of surfactants, coal flotation agents, and raw materials for pesticide emulsifiers.
3. Used as a solvent, such as for oils and waxes.
4. As a pharmaceutical raw material, used in the synthesis of anthelmintic drugs like hexylresorcinol.
