II. Properties and Uses
This product is a colorless or light yellow transparent oily liquid. It has a slight special ester-like fragrance. Relative density: 0.960–0.963 (20/4°C). Melting point: 1–2°C, flash point: >110°C, boiling point: 312°C (760 mmHg), refractive index: 1.4360. Insoluble in water, soluble in alcohols, ethers, and other organic solvents. Due to its good compatibility with nitrocellulose and cellulose acetate butyrate, it is commonly used as a plasticizer for such resins and vinyl resins. It can also be used in organic synthesis, as a solvent, and as an intermediate in pigments and pharmaceuticals.
