Properties: Melting point 28.0°C. Boiling point 269.1°C. Relative density 1.0828 (20/20°C). Dynamic viscosity (40°C) 196.4 mPa·s. Flash point 146°C. Refractive index nD (20°C) 1.4476. Solubility in benzene at 25°C is 4.2%, in ether at 25°C is 0.8%, and in carbon tetrachloride at 25°C is less than 0.1%. Hygroscopic. Alkaline in nature, capable of absorbing carbon dioxide and hydrogen sulfide from the air. Uses: Used as a purifying agent for gases; also used as a raw material in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals and organic compounds.
