Appearance: Reddish-brown powder. It is an iron-containing complex allosteric protein in vertebrate red blood cells, composed of heme and globin, with globin accounting for about 96% and heme for 4%. It contains four polypeptide chains, each with a heme group. The iron in heme is divalent; when binding with oxygen, its valence remains unchanged, forming oxyhemoglobin, which appears bright red. After dissociation from oxygen, it exhibits a light blue color.
