Properties: Affinity chromatography purified, salt-free lyophilized powder obtained by freeze-drying. Soluble in water, physiological saline, or buffer solutions, forming a clear solution without insoluble matter. A plant lectin extracted from seeds such as jack beans and peas. It is a tetrameric globulin with a molecular weight of 102,000. Each subunit contains 237 amino acid residues, with a molecular weight of 25,500, binding one Ca²⁺ and one Mn²⁺, and contains one sugar-binding site. Specifically binds to α-mannose and α-glucose (on cell membrane glycoproteins), with the binding site requiring unsubstituted hydroxyl groups at C-3/C-4 and C-6 in the six-membered ring of α-D-mannopyranose or α-D-glucopyranose. Exhibits the highest affinity for mannobiose and mannotriose linked by α-1,2 glycosidic bonds.

Usage: Biochemical research. It is a mitogen, primarily stimulating T lymphocytes, agglutinating red blood cells and animal sperm, inhibiting tumor cell movement, and prolonging the survival time of heterologous transplants. An important reagent for biochemical and immunological research.
