Appearance: White needle-like crystals or light yellow lyophilized powder. Molecular weight 25,000 (pancreatic). Soluble in water. It is a broad-spectrum proteolytic enzyme characterized by the degradation of insoluble elastin, which can be extracted from animal pancreas or produced by microbial fermentation. Elastase purified from animal pancreas is an endopeptidase containing 240 amino acid residues, with an isoelectric point pI of 9.5. The lyophilized powder can be stored for 6-12 months below 5°C. It is inactivated by strong acids and can catalyze the hydrolysis of peptide bonds formed by elastin peptides or other neutral amino acids.
Use: Biochemical research. Microbial elastase, like pancreatic elastase, has broad hydrolytic properties. It not only degrades elastin but also decomposes various proteins such as casein, gelatin, fibrin, hemoglobin, and albumin. It is a broad-spectrum endopeptidase. This enzyme increases lipoprotein lipase activity, functions as an A-lipoprotein lipase, inhibits cholesterol synthesis in the body, and promotes its conversion into bile acids.
