In industrial production, the treatment of boiler and kiln flue gas cannot be achieved without dust removal, desulfurization, and denitrification processes. Among these, flue gas desulfurization technology, commonly referred to as FGD, primarily uses alkaline substances to neutralize sulfur-containing compounds such as SO₂ in the flue gas. Among desulfurization processes, the limestone-gypsum desulfurization method is widely applied, accounting for over 85% of the market share.

Principle of Limestone-Gypsum Wet Flue Gas Desulfurization Process in Desulfurization Towers:

The main desulfurization equipment in limestone-gypsum wet desulfurization is the desulfurization tower. The principle involves using limestone or gypsum as the absorbent for flue gas desulfurization. During the desulfurization process, limestone is first crushed and ground into a powdered form, mixed with water, and stirred to form an absorbent slurry. Inside the desulfurization absorption tower, the absorbent slurry comes into contact and mixes with the flue gas. At this point, the sulfur dioxide in the flue gas reacts chemically with the calcium carbonate in the slurry and the blown-in oxidizing air, resulting in the production of gypsum as the reaction product.
