Streptolysin O (SLO) produced by hemolytic streptococci has strong antigenicity. The vast majority of patients infected with streptococci can detect SLO antibodies from 2-3 weeks after infection to several months or even one year after recovery. Clinical detection of ASO (anti streptococcal hemolysin O) can help diagnose diseases caused by hemolytic streptococci, such as acute glomerular disease, rheumatoid arthritis, scarlet fever, and tonsillitis.
