　　Main Uses

　　Excellent Solvent

　　Due to its strong solvency and moderate volatility (slower than acetone, faster than cyclohexanone), it is widely used in the coatings, inks, and adhesives industries to dissolve polymer materials such as nitrocellulose, cellulose acetate, epoxy resins, and polyvinyl chloride.

　　In the leather industry, it is used as a degreasing agent and cleaning agent; in the textile industry, it is used for dye dissolution and fabric treatment.

　　Commonly used as an extractant in laboratories to separate organic compounds or dissolve samples.

　　Chemical Intermediate

　　It undergoes dehydration to form mesityl oxide (4-methyl-3-penten-2-one), which is an important raw material for the synthesis of fragrances, pharmaceuticals, and herbicides.

　　It can be further converted into chemical products such as methyl isobutyl ketone (MIBK) and methyl isobutyl carbinol (MIBC), used as solvents or fuel additives.

　　Other Applications

　　As a metal cleaning agent, it removes oil and impurities, and is particularly suitable for cleaning precision instruments and electronic components.

　　In cosmetics and personal care products, it is used in small amounts in products such as nail polish and hair spray to adjust the viscosity and volatility of the formulation.
