Main Applications

Organic Synthesis Intermediates:

Preparation of valeric acid via hydrolysis (used in the synthesis of fragrances and preservatives).

Preparation of pentylamine via reduction (used in the synthesis of surfactants and pharmaceutical intermediates).

As a source of cyano groups, participating in cyclization reactions or introducing long carbon chain structures to synthesize heterocyclic compounds, liquid crystal materials, etc.

Solvent: Due to its solubility for both polar and non-polar substances, it can be used as a solvent for organic reactions (e.g., certain nucleophilic substitution reactions).

Others: Used in the pharmaceutical field for the synthesis of intermediates for antiepileptic drugs and antibiotics; used in the fragrance industry for the preparation of aliphatic nitrile fragrances (possessing long-lasting scents).
