Main Uses

Chemical and Material Fields:

As an intermediate for synthesizing guanidine derivatives, used in the preparation of sulfa drugs, dyes, resins, etc.

Used for synthesizing flame-retardant materials; its guanidine group has a high nitrogen content, which can enhance the flame retardancy of materials.

Used as an additive in the electroplating industry to improve the gloss and uniformity of coatings (such as copper and nickel coatings).

Pharmaceutical and Agricultural:

In pharmaceuticals, used for preparing antimalarial drugs, antihypertensive drugs, etc., and also as a protein denaturant (the guanidine group can disrupt hydrogen bonds in proteins, causing protein unfolding).

In agriculture, it can serve as a plant growth regulator or fertilizer additive, providing a nitrogen source to promote crop growth (dosage must be controlled to avoid excessive alkalinity affecting the soil).

Other Uses:

As a detergent builder, utilizing its alkalinity and chelating ability to enhance cleaning efficacy.

In organic synthesis, used as a strong base catalyst or for the preparation of guanidine compounds.
