Application Fields

Relying on "stable structure + controllable reactivity," chlorobenzene is a core raw material for aromatic intermediates and an excellent solvent:

Chemical Intermediates:

Production of Phenol: Chlorobenzene reacts with an aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide at 300°C and 20 MPa (hydrolysis) to generate phenol (yield > 98%), which is one of the mainstream production routes for phenol.

Synthesis of Nitrochlorobenzene: Through nitration reactions, it generates ortho-nitrochlorobenzene and para-nitrochlorobenzene, which are further reduced to ortho/para-chloroaniline for use in manufacturing dyes and pesticides (such as herbicides).

Preparation of Rubber Auxiliaries: It reacts with formaldehyde and ammonia water to produce rubber antioxidant MB, improving the aging resistance of rubber.

Solvent Applications:

Industrial Solvent: It dissolves rubber, resins, oils, waxes, etc., and is used in paint diluents and ink solvents. It is particularly suitable for high-temperature operating conditions (high boiling point, moderate volatility rate).

Extractant: Used in chemical separation to extract aromatic hydrocarbons and separate metal ions (e.g., extracting precious metals from wastewater).

Heat Transfer Medium: Mixed with other compounds to prepare high-temperature heat transfer oil (operating temperature up to 200°C).

Other Fields:

Pesticide Raw Materials: Used to synthesize insecticides (such as DDT; although its use is restricted, it is still applied in some special pesticides) and fungicides.

Electronic Chemicals: High-purity chlorobenzene (purity ≥ 99.99%) is used for semiconductor cleaning to remove photoresist residues.
