| Physicochemical Properties | Nicotinamide is a white needle-like crystal or crystalline powder, odorless or with a slight odor, and slightly bitter taste. Relative density 1.4, melting point 129-131°C. 1g of this product dissolves in 1mL of water, 1.5mL of ethanol, or 10mL of glycerol. The pH of a 10% aqueous solution is 6.5-7.5. It has slight hygroscopicity. It is relatively stable, resistant to acid, alkali, and high temperatures; stable to light and heat in dry air, but generates nicotinic acid when heated in alkaline or acidic solutions. Oral LD50 in rats is 2.5-3.5g/kg; ADI value not specified (ECC, 1990). |
