The SN10 oil circuit breaker is an indoor high-voltage oil circuit breaker widely used in China since the 1960s. It is mainly used in power systems with an alternating current of 50 Hz and a rated voltage of 10 kV to 35 kV, serving as control and protection equipment. Its structure and functions are as follows:
I. Main Functions
Circuit breaking and closing: Safely connect or disconnect high-voltage circuits under normal or fault conditions (such as short circuits).
Arc extinguishing function: Uses a small amount of insulating oil as an arc extinguishing medium to quickly extinguish arcs and prevent equipment damage.
Matched with switchgear: Often used in conjunction with withdrawable high-voltage switchgears such as JYN1 and GBC to realize protection and control of high-voltage systems in industrial and mining enterprises, substations, etc.
Note: With technological progress, the SN10 series has been gradually replaced by vacuum circuit breakers, and its market application is decreasing.
II. Typical Structural Composition (represented by SN10-10/35)
The SN10 oil circuit breaker mainly consists of the following three major parts:
Frame (support and transmission part)
Welded from angle steel and steel plates, providing mechanical support.
Equipped with opening springs, opening buffers, closing buffers, main shafts, bearings and insulators.
The transmission system connects the main shaft and the rotating shaft inside the oil tank through insulating pull rods to realize opening and closing operations.
Oil tank (core arc extinguishing unit)
Fixed on support insulators, filled with a small amount of insulating oil (only used for arc extinguishing and insulation between contacts, not for insulation to ground).
Base (made of ductile cast iron): Includes rotating shaft, connecting rod, conductive rod, copper-tungsten alloy moving contact, oil buffer and oil drain bolt.
Insulating cylinder: Equipped with an arc extinguishing chamber, adopting a combined effect of cross-blow + longitudinal blow + mechanical oil blow to improve arc extinguishing efficiency.
Upper outgoing line and upper cap: Includes static contact seat (inlaid with copper-tungsten arc contact fingers), oil level gauge and oil-gas separator, which can recover oil droplets and reduce leakage.
Conductive circuit path
Upper outgoing line → static contact seat → moving contact rod (conductive rod) → rolling contact → lower outgoing line.
III. Key Features and Notes
Advanced arc extinguishing method: The cross and longitudinal blow composite arc extinguishing structure can extinguish large, medium and small current arcs in a short time.
Oil buffer is crucial: Absorbs kinetic energy at the end of opening. If there is no oil, the buffer will fail, which may cause the contacts to hit the base and damage mechanical parts.
Applicable voltage levels: Common models include SN10-10 (10 kV), SN10-35 (35 kV), SN10-40.5 (40.5 kV), etc.
Operating mechanism: Can be equipped with CD10 electromagnetic mechanism, CT7 spring mechanism, and early models also had CS2 manual mechanism (now eliminated).
