Pharmaceutical Field:
Smooth Muscle Antispasmodic: Derivatives of phloroglucinol (such as phloroglucinol mesylate) are clinically common antispasmodic drugs. They can selectively relax smooth muscle in the gastrointestinal tract, biliary tract, and genitourinary system, relieving pain caused by spasms (such as biliary colic, renal colic, dysmenorrhea, etc.). They have no effect on the cardiovascular system and autonomic nervous system, and have few side effects.
Antibacterial and Antioxidant: Studies have shown that phloroglucinol possesses certain antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant activities. Its natural extracts have been used in traditional medicine to treat certain infectious diseases.
Organic Synthesis Field:
As an important intermediate, it is used to synthesize dyes (such as azo dyes), fragrances, explosives, resins, etc. For example, condensation with aldehydes can generate compounds with fluorescent characteristics, used in the preparation of fluorescent dyes.
