O-phthalaldehyde
Other Products
Main Uses
Detection reagent in analytical chemistry:
Utilizing its fluorescent reaction with thiols and primary amines, it is used to detect amino acids (especially thiol-containing amino acids like cysteine), peptides, and proteins in biological samples. Sensitivity can reach the nanomolar level, and it is widely used as a derivatization reagent in High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC).
As a fluorescent probe, it is used for the imaging analysis of intracellular thiol compounds.
Disinfection and sterilization:
It possesses broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity and can kill bacteria, fungi, and viruses, with particularly significant effects against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. It is often used as a high-level disinfectant for medical devices (such as endoscopes and dialysis equipment). Its advantages include fast disinfection speed (usually 10-30 minutes), no residual toxicity (safe degradation products), and low corrosiveness to metals.
Organic synthesis intermediate:
Used for synthesizing heterocyclic compounds (such as quinoxalines and isoindoles), which are core scaffolds for many drugs (antibacterial, antitumor) and dyes.
As a cross-linking agent, it is used to prepare polymer materials (such as resins and adhesives) by achieving intermolecular cross-linking through the condensation reaction of aldehyde groups with amino and hydroxyl groups.
Other applications:
In the pharmaceutical field, it is used as an intermediate for synthesizing certain antibiotics and antiviral drugs.
In the cosmetics industry, it is used as an antioxidant or preservative (concentration must be controlled to avoid irritation).
Used to prepare fluorescent dyes or luminescent materials, utilizing the fluorescent properties of its derivatives.
