●Performance and Characteristics:
Alcohol ether carboxylate (AEC) is a new type of multifunctional anionic surfactant. Its general structural formula is R-(OCH₂CH₂)ₙOCH₂COONa(H), which is very similar to soap. However, the embedded EO chain gives it the characteristics of both anionic and nonionic surfactants, allowing it to be used under a wide range of pH conditions. Its main features include:
Excellent solubilizing ability, suitable for formulating functional transparent products.
Good detergency, wetting, emulsification, dispersion, and calcium soap dispersion power.
Good foaming ability and foam stability; foaming power is not affected by water hardness or medium pH. No samples are provided in the original packaging; product integrity ensures quality.
Very mild to the eyes and skin, and significantly improves the mildness of formulations.
Resistant to hard water, acids, alkalis, electrolytes, and high temperatures; stable to hypochlorites and peroxides.
Good compatibility, can be used with any ionic or nonionic surfactant, and does not interfere with the conditioning properties of cationic agents.
Easily biodegradable, with a degradation rate of 98% in OECD verification tests. Completely degrades into CO₂ and water in the natural environment.
Non-toxic and safe to use, with an LD₅₀ value of 3000–4000 mg/kg.
The excellent properties of alcohol ether carboxylate determine its wide range of applications:
1. Used as an emulsifier in paste cosmetics.
2. Used in oral care products without inhibiting lysozyme.
3. Adding AEC to soap bars improves mildness, calcium soap dispersion, foaming performance, and bathing feel.
4. As a detergent, it can partially replace LAS and corresponding nonionic surfactants in household detergents, industrial detergents, and phosphate-free detergents.
5. Used in personal cleaning and care products, such as mild shampoos, body washes, facial cleansers, baby shampoos, and liquid soaps.
6. In the textile industry, it can be used for cotton pretreatment, mercerization, scouring, and bleaching; for wool cleaning and treatment, it performs better than corresponding nonionic surfactants; when compounded with amino silicones as fabric softeners, it improves softness, prevents wrinkling, and avoids yellowing; also used as an emulsifier and leveling agent in the dyeing and coating processes of synthetic fibers and wool (disperse dyes), where AEC improves stability and dyeing behavior in dye formulations.
7. Used in water-soluble cutting oils to enhance emulsification, stability, and corrosion resistance (contains no N, P, or S in its molecular structure).
8. Used as a high-temperature and high-electrolyte-resistant emulsifier and viscosity reducer in tertiary oil recovery and petroleum transportation to improve crude oil recovery and prevent wax deposition.
9. Used in the paper industry for wastepaper deinking agents and formulations containing quaternary ammonium salt softeners.
10. Used in the leather industry for raw hide degreasing processes.
11. Used in developers to significantly improve lightfastness.
12. In the extraction and separation processes of divalent metal ions such as Zn, Cd, Hg, and Ca, AEC improves selectivity.
13. Used as a foaming agent in foam fire extinguishers.
