Typically, the main component is a three-phase oil-immersed power transformer, with high and low-voltage switches, electric energy metering, lightning protection, and other components reasonably arranged and compactly connected, all placed within a steel structure box room, integrated into one. It possesses both power transformation and distribution functions, along with metering devices, making it a complete, compact, space-saving, and easily installable power reception and distribution substation.
Box substations are mainly composed of multiple high-voltage switch systems, armored busbars, substation integrated automation systems, communication, remote control, metering, capacitor compensation, DC power supply, and other electrical units combined and installed in a moisture-proof, rust-proof, dust-proof, rodent-proof, fire-proof, theft-proof, heat-insulated, fully enclosed, and movable steel structure box. They feature electromechanical integration and fully enclosed operation, with the following key characteristics:
Fully intelligent station design: The protection system uses substation microcomputer integrated automation devices, installed in a decentralized manner, enabling "four remotes" – telemetry, teleindication, telecommand, and teleregulation. Each unit has independent operation functions, comprehensive relay protection, remote setting of operating parameters, control of humidity and temperature inside the box, and remote smoke alarm, meeting the requirements for unattended operation. Additionally, remote image monitoring can be implemented as needed.
Factory prefabrication: During design, as long as the designers create the primary wiring diagram and design for external equipment based on the actual requirements of the substation, they can select the specifications and models of box substations provided by manufacturers. All equipment is installed and debugged once in the factory, truly realizing factory-based substation construction and shortening the design and manufacturing cycle. On-site installation only requires box positioning, cable connections between boxes, outgoing cable connections, protection setting verification, transmission tests, and other debugging work. The entire substation, from installation to operation, takes about 5 to 8 days, significantly reducing construction time.
Due to their compact structure, each box forms an independent system, allowing for flexible and diverse combinations. On one hand, we can adopt an all-box approach, meaning that both 35kV and 10kV equipment are installed inside the box, forming a fully box-type substation. Alternatively, only the 10kV switchgear can be boxed, with 35kV equipment installed outdoors and 10kV equipment and control protection systems installed inside the box. This combination is particularly suitable for the renovation of old stations in rural grid upgrades, where the existing 35kV equipment remains unchanged, and only a 10kV switchgear box needs to be installed to meet the requirements for unattended operation. In summary, box substations do not have fixed combination modes, and users can freely combine various modes based on actual conditions to meet the needs of safe operation.
