Properties of Potassium Hydroxide: Strongly alkaline and corrosive. Absorbs carbon dioxide to form potassium carbonate. The pH of a 0.1 mol/L solution is 13.5. White rhombic crystals; the industrial product appears as white or light gray lumps or rods. Highly soluble in water, soluble in ethanol, slightly soluble in ether.

Uses: Has numerous industrial applications, most of which are due to its ability to react with acids and its inherent corrosiveness. Widely used in pharmaceutical intermediates, various potassium salts, and food additive ingredients.
