Gabion mesh is an ecological grid structure. Gabion mesh is mechanically woven from high corrosion-resistant, high-strength, ductile low-carbon steel wire or PVC-coated steel wire. The box-shaped structure made from this mesh is called a gabion. According to ASTM and EN standards, the diameter of the low-carbon steel wire used varies based on engineering design requirements, generally ranging between 2.0-4.0mm. The tensile strength of the steel wire is not less than 38kg/m², and the metal coating weight is generally above 245g/m². The edge wire diameter of the gabion mesh is typically larger than the mesh wire diameter. The length of the double-wire twisted part must not be less than 50mm to ensure that the metal coating and PVC coating of the twisted wire are not damaged.
Product Applications:
This structure can be used for slope support, foundation pit support, rock face mesh spraying for mountain slopes, slope vegetation (greening), and isolation guardrails for railways and highways. It can also be made into box cages and mesh pads for scour protection of rivers, embankments, and seawalls, as well as for river closure and reservoir applications.

Thus, the use of ecological grid structures has been a primary method for many natural river modifications and artificial channel excavations over the past century. It effectively provides permanent protection for riverbanks or riverbeds, controls water flow, prevents water loss, and offers excellent benefits in environmental protection and water quality maintenance.
3. Bank and slope protection
The application of ecological grid structures in riverbank protection and slope toe protection is a highly successful example. It fully leverages the advantages of ecological mesh, achieving ideal results that other methods cannot.
