Have you really chosen the right cast iron floor track that is absolutely stunning?
The metal composition of cast iron floor tracks tends to form highly fluid metal oxides. Metals with good fluidity are more prone to mechanical sand adhesion compared to metals with high surface tension or high viscosity. If the upper mold is too high, mechanical sand adhesion in cast iron floor tracks is usually related to the permeability resistance of the mold cavity surface and the static pressure of the molten metal. The pressure of the molten metal in cast iron floor tracks depends on the density of the metal and the height of the upper mold. From the perspective of compensating for shrinkage during casting, the upper mold should have a certain height, but the properties of the molding sand must also be adjusted accordingly. Improper placement of gates and risers can cause localized overheating of the sand mold, leading to premature damage to the mold cavity surface, making it easier for molten metal or metal oxides formed at high temperatures to adhere to the cavity surface.
The surface strength of the coating on cast iron floor tracks, as measured by manual methods, is related to the type and amount of adhesive binder . As the amount of adhesive binder increases, the surface strength of the coating improves. This indicates that the main factors affecting strength are the type and amount of adhesive binder. When considering the surface strength of cast iron floor tracks, the influence of the adhesive binder is the primary concern. The ignition loss of cast iron floor tracks refers to the percentage of weight loss after a dried coating sample (dried at 105–110°C) is ignited for 1 hour in a non-oxidizing atmosphere gradually heated to 950–1000°C, relative to the original weight.

Differences in the quality of molten iron produced by cupola furnaces and electric furnaces for cast iron floor tracks: Cupola furnaces for cast iron floor tracks use coke as fuel to preheat, melt, superheat, and reduce solid iron blocks and other furnace materials. The molten iron flows through the furnace bottom into the forehearth, a process that takes a short time, approximately 10 minutes. The molten iron often remains in the forehearth for a period, which is beneficial for nucleation.
For sand molds and cores coated with paint that are stored for a long time before pouring, the moisture absorption of the cast iron floor track coating must be tested. The basic method for determining coating moisture absorption is to place the coating sample in a constant humidity chamber with a specific humidity for a certain period, then weigh the sample before and after storage. Due to the influence of gravity, casting coatings for cast iron floor tracks tend to flow on vertical surfaces of molds (cores), resulting in a thicker coating at the bottom than at the top, and may even accumulate at the bottom of the cast iron floor track. This property is called flowability.
The impact of melting iron in electric furnaces on material properties: The melting point of scrap steel is higher than that of cast iron, and the melting point of carburizers is also high. During and after the melting of scrap steel, carburizers are slowly dissolved and diffused as they are heated, allowing carbon to be absorbed by the molten steel. The molten steel gradually turns into molten iron, often referred to as synthetic cast iron. Due to the high melting temperature of scrap steel, after the molten steel absorbs carbon atoms from the carburizer, the overheating temperature during the transformation into molten iron is often very high for a brief period.
Sand molds and cores coated with water-based paints will absorb moisture from the air after drying, which can deteriorate their properties, reduce strength, sharply increase gas evolution, and in severe cases, cause issues such as sand adhesion, loose structure, and porosity in cast iron floor tracks. The moisture absorption of the coating is mainly related to the adhesive binder, with water-soluble binders having strong moisture absorption.
Viscosity of cast iron floor track coatings: Extract 120 ml from the finished product and prepare it in a viscosity cup for timing. Open the viscosity cup outlet, and measure the time it takes for the slurry to flow to the 100 ml mark in the measuring cylinder. The number of seconds taken per 100 ml is the viscosity of the coating. Use a balance to weigh the measuring cylinder containing 100 ml of the coating, then subtract the weight of the empty cylinder to obtain the specific gravity.
