First, let's talk about mold materials:

1. Energy saving and environmental protection (compared to metal molds and lost foam molding).

3. Wooden molds are convenient to make and process, either by mechanical processing or manual production.

4. If the mold is damaged or missing parts, repairs are easier and simpler, with low maintenance costs.

5. Wood has low density and is lightweight, making it easy to place during the molding process and easier to remove after molding.

6. The materials for making wooden molds are relatively low-cost and easier to obtain.

However, the disadvantages of wooden mold molding for cast iron plates are:

1. Wooden molds are more prone to wear and damage. After a certain number of uses, they can cause increased wall thickness or missing corners in castings.

2. Wooden molds are not easy to preserve. Since wood has a limited lifespan, higher requirements are needed for storage and placement.

3. Prone to molding errors. During the molding process, removing the wooden mold can cause sandbox collapse, and many issues may not be directly visible to the naked eye, posing a risk of casting defects.

Lost foam casting, also known as vaporization mold casting, has the following main advantages:

1. Simplifies the model, eliminating the need for mold removal, which avoids casting defects during the removal process.

2. Significantly improves the dimensional accuracy and surface finish of castings.

3. Simplifies the process, as sand filling is part of the molding process, greatly improving workers' labor intensity and working conditions. For the same output, the required technical proficiency of workers is reduced.

4. Castings with holes or internal cavities no longer require cores, simplifying the molding difficulty.

5. Uses dry sand molding without any binders, eliminating casting defects caused by water, binders, and other additives.

6. Easy to achieve mechanization and automated production. Due to the reduction in production steps and simplification of necessary equipment, investment costs are correspondingly reduced.

7. Saves materials and energy, with old sand reuse rates reaching over 95%. No need for complete sand treatment equipment like clay sand production lines.

8. Casting costs can be reduced by about 10%-40%, enhancing the product's market competitiveness.

Disadvantages of lost foam molding for cast iron plates:

1. Higher requirements for model production, especially for workers' proficiency.

2. For mass production, each model can only be used once.

3. Molding is prone to errors and omissions of some ribs, and the transition fillet treatment is not as aesthetically pleasing or uniform as with wooden molds.
