This product is an active substance extracted from the whole plant of Cyanotis arachnoidea C. B. Clarke, a member of the Commelinaceae family. Calculated on the dried basis, it contains not less than 90% of β-ecdysone [C27H44O7].

【Characteristics】 This product appears as a pale yellow crystalline powder, odorless, hygroscopic, and gradually darkens in color upon exposure to light.

【Identification】 1. Dissolve a small amount of this product, and it should exhibit a reddish-brown color.

【Tests】 Loss on drying: When an appropriate amount of this product is dried to constant weight at 105°C, the loss in weight should not exceed 5%. Residue on ignition: Should not exceed 1%. 【Assay】 Accurately weigh 50 mg of this product, place it in a 50 ml volumetric flask, add ethanol to dissolve and dilute to the mark, mix well. Precisely measure 1 ml, dilute to 50 ml, mix well. Measure the absorbance at a wavelength of 242 ± 2 nm using spectrophotometry, and calculate based on the absorption coefficient [E1%1cm] of C27H44O7 as 249.6.
