Properties:

White or light-colored crystals or powder, stable in air, soluble in water (22.6g/100ml), insoluble in ethanol, hygroscopic. Melts into a transparent liquid when heated to 400°C, and solidifies into opaque glassy potassium metaphosphate upon cooling.

(1) Industrial Applications:

1. Flame Retardant: Dry powder fire extinguishing agent, flame retardant for fabrics, wood, and paper, fireproofing agent in the printing and dyeing industry. Monopotassium phosphate decomposes at low temperatures, forming a glassy potassium polyphosphate that creates a dense protective layer on the surface of combustibles to isolate oxygen, providing excellent fire-extinguishing effects. Its low moisture absorption rate aids in the storage of ultra-fine dry powder fire extinguishing agents.

2. Textile: Printing and dyeing detergent, weighting agent for silk, mordant for manufacturing reactive dyes, also used as a fabric weighting agent, etc. 

3. Water Treatment: Industrial water treatment agent, water softener.

4. Welding Industry: Flux, used as a substitute for borax in welding and brazing.

5. Reagent: Used as an analytical reagent and pH standard reagent, hydrogen peroxide bleaching stabilizer, neutralizing agent, antibiotic culture medium, buffer, bacterial culture medium.

6. Pharmaceutical: Biochemical processing agent.

7. Others: Glaze, pigment, raw material for potassium metaphosphate production.
