Overview of Sodium Ion Exchanger
A sodium ion exchanger, also known as a water softener, is an ion exchange device used to remove calcium and magnesium ions from water to produce softened water. The calcium and magnesium ions that constitute water hardness are exchanged with the ion exchange resin in the softener. The calcium and magnesium ions in the water are replaced by sodium ions, making it difficult for carbonate and sulfate scales to form in the water, thus yielding softened water. Applications include softening high-hardness drinking water, softening raw water for domestic hot water, pretreatment for direct drinking water systems, softening boiler feed water and make-up water for various heat exchangers, as well as softening treatment for circulating cooling water in air conditioning systems.
