The heating section of the threaded silicon carbide rod is spiral in shape. This type of element forms a protective film on its surface less frequently than conventional elements, so the wall thickness of the element needs to be made as thick as possible to extend its service life. Threaded silicon carbide rods come in single-thread and double-thread variants, with double-thread elements being more expensive than single-thread ones. Single-thread silicon carbide rods are wired at both ends, while double-thread rods are wired at one end. They are primarily used for heating kilns with special requirements, featuring higher energy efficiency, ease of operation, and high operating temperatures.
Silicon carbide rods are high-temperature electric heating elements made from high-purity green silicon carbide through high-temperature silicification and recrystallization. With a silicon carbide content of over 99%, they exhibit physical and chemical properties largely identical to those of silicon carbide. Compared to other metal electric heating elements, they offer the following advantages: strong acid resistance, high oxidation resistance, higher surface load density than metal heating elements, rapid heating, excellent thermal shock resistance, low thermal expansion coefficient, high thermal conductivity, high operating temperature, and long service life. When used in air, the surface temperature of the rod can reach 1500°C, with a continuous service life of over 2000 hours. During installation, rods with similar resistance values should be placed in the same temperature zone, typically with a resistance error of around 0.1.

The resistance measurement of silicon carbide rods is conducted using specialized electrical testing equipment to determine high-temperature resistance; room temperature measurements are not performed. Using instruments such as multimeters for measurement can result in significant errors, as the resistivity of silicon carbide rods at lower temperatures (20°C) is uncertain. To measure resistance, the silicon carbide rod is heated to 1000-1100°C, and the voltage and current at this temperature are recorded. The resistance value is then calculated using Ohm's law: R = V/I.
