Silicon carbide rods are non-linear resistors. At room temperature, the resistance varies significantly. When heated, the resistance gradually decreases from room temperature to 850°C ± 50°C, slowly increases between 800°C and 900°C, and stabilizes around 1050°C ± 50°C. The resistance measured at this stage is relatively standard, making it easier to pair appropriately during installation. In terms of shape, there are thick-end silicon carbide rods, uniform diameter type, U-type, right-angle, gate-type, H-type, h-type, threaded type, five-section type, groove type, etc.

When silicon carbide rods are used for extended periods at high temperatures, the surface of SiC oxidizes, gradually increasing the SiO2 content in the element, which leads to an increase in resistance. This is a normal phenomenon known as "aging." During the first 500 hours of use, the aging process is rapid, after which it slows down, primarily because the SiO2 film on the surface of the element slows down the oxidation of SiC. The aging rate of silicon carbide rods depends on the operating temperature and surface load density. To maintain constant power and achieve the desired furnace temperature, it is necessary to use a corresponding voltage regulator to accommodate the increasing resistance of the element during use.
