The protective layer of silicon dioxide has a specific melting point; when the rod temperature exceeds 1600°C, the protective layer may be damaged or peel off, causing the silicon carbon rod to continue oxidizing. Continued use will regenerate the protective film. Therefore, it is recommended to use silicon carbon rod elements continuously and avoid excessively high rod temperatures. Proper design of the electric furnace and silicon carbon rod parameters, along with correct usage, are key to maximizing the lifespan of silicon carbon rods.

 The typical furnace temperature for silicon carbon rod heating elements is between 1000°C and 1350°C. Hollow silicon carbon rods are more commonly used because they do not require specific molds, have low production costs, and are simple and convenient to manufacture, with a wide range of available lengths and diameters. Solid silicon carbon rods, on the other hand, are limited by mold constraints and have fewer specifications, but they offer a longer service life. They also have advantages in terms of heating speed and temperature resistance.
