Equal-diameter silicon carbide rods are electric heating elements made from three equal-diameter hollow tubes through a special manufacturing process. They offer advantages such as low end resistance, long service life, and energy efficiency. Widely used in industries like rare earth, phosphors, electronics, magnetic materials, powder metallurgy, and casting, these rods serve as heating elements in high-temperature furnaces such as push-plate furnaces, mesh belt furnaces, car-bottom furnaces, box furnaces, muffle furnaces, vacuum furnaces, and lift furnaces. Available in many specifications, they are one of the most commonly used shapes in silicon carbide heating elements, with diameters ranging from 8mm to 60mm. The typical diameter for silicon carbide elements is 12-45mm, while the heating section length generally ranges from 80mm to 3000mm.

During prolonged use at high temperatures, silicon carbide rods undergo oxidation on the surface, leading to an increase in SiO₂ content within the element, which results in higher resistance. This is a normal phenomenon known as "aging." The aging process is rapid during the first 500 hours of use and slows down afterward, primarily due to the SiO₂ film on the surface inhibiting further oxidation of SiC. The aging rate of silicon carbide rods depends on the operating temperature and surface load density. To maintain constant power and achieve the desired furnace temperature, it is necessary to use a corresponding voltage regulator to accommodate the increasing resistance of the element during operation.
