Plastic Film Tear Tester FTS-01 Product Introduction

Tear strength refers to the force required to tear a polymer material sample using a specified method, expressed in N. There are two methods for determining tear strength:

(1) Trouser Tear Method: Suitable for determining the tear strength of soft and hard films (including embossed films) and sheets with a thickness of less than 1mm at a specified test speed. During the test, a sample with a pre-cut slit half its length is subjected to a tensile test on the two "trouser legs" formed by the slit. The average force required to tear the sample along its length direction is used to calculate the tear strength of the material. If it is not necessary to express the result as tear strength, the tear force alone may be used.

(2) Elmendorf Method: This method involves measuring the force required to propagate a pre-cut slit by a specified length in thin and soft plastic sheets or films under specified loading conditions. This method is not suitable for harder materials such as PVC, nylon, and polyester films. During the test, a sample with a specified incision is subjected to the tearing force generated by the energy stored in a specified pendulum. The force is directly read from the dial and recorded as the tear strength of each sample, expressed in N.

Jinan Zhongce Electromechanical has developed and produced the Film Tear Tester FTS-01 based on the relevant standards of "GB/T 16578.2-2009/ISO 6383-2 Determination of Tear Resistance of Plastic Films and Sheets, Part 2: Elmendorf Method." This instrument is used for testing the tear strength of various plastic films, sheets, soft PVC, polyvinylidene chloride (PVDC), waterproof membranes, polyester, and other materials. This testing instrument employs the Elmendorf method and is also known as the Elmendorf Tear Tester, Film Tear Strength Tester, etc.
