Speed bump

Shanxi Qijie speed bumps, also known as speed humps, are traffic facilities installed on roads to slow down passing vehicles. They are generally strip-shaped, though some are dotted. The material is primarily rubber, but some are made of metal. They are usually colored yellow and black to attract visual attention, causing a slight arch on the road surface to achieve the purpose of slowing vehicles. When a vehicle passes over a speed bump at a higher speed, intense vibrations are transmitted from the tires through the body and seats to the driver. The vertical curve can generate a vertical acceleration, producing strong physiological stimulation (including vibration and visual stimulation) as well as psychological stimulation. Physiological stimulation causes the driver to feel strong discomfort, while psychological stimulation deepens the driver's sense of insecurity, further reducing their feeling of safety in the road environment. Typically, the greater the discomfort perceived by the driver, the lower the vehicle's driving safety, meaning a smaller sense of security. Therefore, the installation of speed bumps lowers the driver's expectations for both driving safety and riding comfort, prompting them to choose a lower expected speed. Guided by this expected speed, the driver will actively operate the vehicle at a lower speed when approaching and passing over the speed bump. They are generally installed at locations such as road intersections, industrial and mining enterprises, schools, residential community entrances, and other areas where vehicles need to slow down, as well as sections prone to traffic accidents. They are a new type of specialized safety device used to reduce the speed of motor vehicles and non-motor vehicles. Speed bumps significantly reduce the occurrence of accidents at various key traffic points and are a new specialized facility for traffic safety.
