1,6-Hexanediol is a colorless crystalline solid with a melting point of 42°C and a boiling point of 250°C. It is soluble in water and serves as an important chemical raw material, widely used as a key component in various organic syntheses.

It is used in the production of polyurethane, unsaturated polyester, plasticizers, hardeners for gelling agents, and thermal stability improvers for lubricants. It is also employed in the manufacture of pyrethroid pesticides, organic peroxides, cyclic musk, polyethylene plastic cross-linking agents, and polyether rubber.
1) Polyurethane field: Polyurethane elastomers are widely used in synthetic rubber, elastic fibers, synthetic leather, and other areas. 1,6-Hexanediol can be applied to polyester resins to modify polyurethane elastomers. The modified resin exhibits excellent mechanical strength, water resistance, heat resistance, and oxidation resistance.
2) Polyester field: Since the unsaturated polyester carbon chain of 1,6-hexanediol is more hydrolysis-resistant than those of short-chain alcohols and offers better flexibility, it improves the alkali resistance of resins and enhances their adhesion to glass fibers. In saturated polyesters, the polyester produced from 1,6-hexanediol and 4,4-dicarboxydiphenyl sulfonic acid features high tensile strength, high elasticity, excellent solvent resistance, and swelling resistance, making it particularly suitable for photographic film bases. Additionally, the polyester derived from 1,6-hexanediol and terephthalic acid is used in the treatment of polyester fibers.
3) Synthetic resin additives: Plasticizers incorporating 1,6-hexanediol demonstrate superior performance in volatility resistance, oil and frost resistance, migration resistance, and low-temperature resistance compared to low-molecular-weight plasticizers. They are widely applicable in plastics, rubber, epoxy resins, and other materials.
