Properties: Iron-free aluminum sulfate is a white crystal with a specific gravity of 1.69, easily soluble in water, insoluble in alcohol, forming an acidic aqueous solution. Dehydration temperature is 860°C, loses crystal water when heated to 250°C. Anhydrous aluminum sulfate begins to decompose at 300°C, decomposing into r-Al₂O₃, etc., at 860°C. The anhydrous form is a white crystal with a pearly luster.
Applications: Mainly used in the manufacturing of high-grade paper and as a sizing agent, for post-coating treatment in titanium dioxide production. Also used as a paper sizing agent and flocculant for drinking water, industrial water, and wastewater treatment, production of catalyst carriers, artificial gemstones, and other aluminum salts. Widely used as a fat clarifier, petroleum deodorizer and decolorizer, raw material for concrete waterproofing agents and rainproof fabrics.
