Flap gate

A flap gate is a hydraulic facility that utilizes the balance between hydraulic force and self-weight to achieve automatic water level regulation, primarily used in reservoirs, rivers, and other locations to block or discharge water flow. Its core principle involves lever balance and a rotational mechanism, where the gate's tilt angle is controlled by changes in the moment of water flow pressure and gate weight. The structure includes components such as panels, legs, and piers.
Classification and Application
Flap gates mainly fall into two categories: Hydraulically Automated Flap Gates and Hydraulic Flap Gates:
Hydraulically Automated Flap Gates: Regulate water levels through the mutual balance of hydraulic force and gate weight. They are suitable for small to medium-sized hydraulic engineering projects, featuring simple structures and low costs, and are widely used in flood control, irrigation, and other fields.
Hydraulic Flap Gates: Employ a hydraulic system to control opening and closing, allowing manual adjustment of water levels. They are suitable for scenarios requiring precise water level control (such as urban landscapes, hydropower stations, etc.), offering faster operation speeds and superior aging resistance.
Technical Features
Steel Dam (Bottom Axle-Driven Flap Gate): Uses hydraulic drive technology, supporting stepless water regulation from 0 to 90 degrees. It is suitable for river channels 10-100 meters wide and operates faster than traditional rubber dams.
Slider-Type Flap Gate: Optimized with a slider structure to address vibration issues found in early roller-link gates, ensuring more stable flow control.
While ensuring the safe operation of hydraulic facilities, flap gates also feature eco-friendly characteristics and can be applied in river management, urban flood control, and other scenarios.
