Benzoic acid

Physical and Chemical Properties: Mostly white rhombic crystals or powder. Its melting point is 122.13°C, boiling point is 249°C, and relative density is 1.2659. It sublimes rapidly at 100°C, and its vapor is highly irritating. Benzoic acid is slightly soluble in water but easily soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol.

Uses:

1. Benzoic acid can be used as a preservative in food, feed, latex, and toothpaste;

2. It can be used as a fragrance fixative in fruit juice beverages;

3. It can be used as a mordant in dyeing and printing;

4. It can be used as a plastic plasticizer;

5. It can be used as an antimicrobial agent.
