Main Uses

Chemical Experiments and Analysis

As a buffer agent: Forms an acetic acid-ammonium acetate buffer system (pH range 4.5-6.0) with acetic acid, used for adjusting solution pH in chromatographic analysis (e.g., HPLC) and electrophoresis experiments. It is particularly suitable for the separation and purification of nucleic acids and proteins (since ammonium ions are volatile and leave no salt residue).

Used in organic synthesis: Acts as an acetylating agent or ammonia source, participating in cyclization, condensation, and other reactions, such as in the synthesis of heterocyclic compounds like pyrroles and pyrimidines.

Component of developing solvents in Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC) to improve separation effects.

Industrial and Materials Fields

Used to prepare cleaning agents in the electronics industry for removing oxides or residual photoresist from circuit board surfaces.

Used as an auxiliary agent in textile printing and dyeing to adjust dye bath pH, promote dye adhesion, and improve dyeing uniformity.

Used to prepare catalyst supports or metal surface treatment agents to enhance metal corrosion resistance.

Pharmaceutical and Agricultural

In medicine, used as an auxiliary component for diuretics or in the preparation of pharmaceutical intermediates (such as antibiotics and vitamins).

In agriculture, used as a nitrogen fertilizer additive (providing ammonium nitrogen) or for soil pH adjustment to improve planting conditions in acidic soils (dosage must be controlled to avoid salt accumulation).

Used in small amounts in the food industry for seasoning or pH adjustment (must comply with food safety standards).
