II. Main Applications

1. Used as a solvent for cellulose acetate, acrylic resin, alkyd resin, coatings, inks, etc.; as a binder for dyes; a dewaxing agent for lubricating oils; and a vulcanization accelerator.

2. Used as a reagent for the determination of cadmium, copper, and mercury; a standard substance for chromatographic analysis; and a solvent for semiconductor photolithography.

3. Approved by GB 2760—96 as a permitted food flavoring. Mainly used in the formulation of cheese, coffee, and banana flavorings. Also used as an extraction solvent.

4. Butanone is primarily used as a solvent, such as in lubricant dewaxing, the coatings industry, and as a solvent for various resins; in the extraction and refining processes of vegetable oils via azeotropic distillation. Its advantages include strong solvency and lower volatility compared to acetone, making it a medium-boiling ketone solvent. Butanone is also an intermediate in the production of pharmaceuticals, dyes, detergents, fragrances, antioxidants, and certain catalysts; it is used in synthesizing anti-peeling agents, polymerization catalysts, and corrosion inhibitors. In the electronics industry, it serves as a developer for integrated circuits after photolithography.

5. Butanone is a raw material for the production of the acaricide tebufenpyrad.

6. It is an organic synthesis raw material and can be used as a solvent. In the petroleum refining industry, it acts as a dewaxing agent for lubricating oils and is also used in the pharmaceutical, coatings, dye, detergent, fragrance, and electronics industries. It serves as a solvent for liquid inks. In cosmetics, it is used in the manufacture of nail polish, where its low boiling point reduces viscosity and provides quick-drying properties.
