II. Main Uses

Dichloroethane is mainly used as an analytical reagent, such as a solvent and a standard substance for chromatographic analysis. It is also used as an extraction agent for fats, in organic synthesis, or as a detergent, extractant, pesticide, and metal degreaser. Additionally, it serves as a solvent for fats, resins, and rubber; a dry-cleaning agent; an extraction agent for pesticides such as pyrethrins, vitamins, and hormones; a wetting agent; a penetrant; a petroleum dewaxing agent; an anti-knock agent; and as a raw material for pesticide manufacturing and pharmaceuticals such as mebendazole and piperazine. In agriculture, it can be used as a fumigant for grains and cereals, as well as a soil disinfectant.
