Fluosilicic acid

[Properties] The aqueous solution is a colorless transparent liquid. Relative density is about 1.32, boiling point is 108.5°C. It has a pungent odor and is volatile. Soluble in water with disinfectant properties. Fluorosilicic acid has no anhydrous product; the maximum concentration is 60.92%, and it is most stable at 13.3% composition, not decomposing during distillation. It can corrode glass, ceramics, aluminum, and other metals, strongly corrode the skin, and is harmful to human respiratory organs.
[Uses] It is a basic raw material for producing sodium, potassium, ammonium, magnesium, copper, barium, and other fluorosilicates, as well as silicon tetrafluoride. Used in metal electroplating, wood preservation, beer disinfection, disinfection of brewing equipment (1-2% H₂SiF₆), and electrolytic refining of lead. Also used as a mordant and metal surface treatment agent.
