Polyacrylamide comes in various properties: cationic, anionic, and non-ionic. Generally, the PAM used for active sludge dewatering is cationic. The solution is typically prepared at a concentration of 0.1%, and the dissolution and stirring time is relatively long. For solid PAM preparation, stirring for over an hour is usually required. In the absence of sludge samples for testing, the recommended dosage for dewatering is 20 mg/L of wet sludge (i.e., concentrated sludge, which generally has a moisture content not below 97% and is usually above 99%).
